Travel to Lagos from Faro Airport

Lagos is extremely accessible from Faro Airport. You have three practical options:

Hire car

A hire car is usually the easiest option if you plan to explore beaches, smaller towns, or multiple resorts. There are lots of options at the airport and prices are very reasonable. We use Zest Car Rental and have never had any problems. Their prices are very competitive and there’s lots of choice. The rental companies have a kiosk just outside the arrival terminal. We would definitely recommend a toll transponder, it takes the pressure off remembering to pay and if you don’t want to hire a Sat Nav, bring one of those phone holders that suckers to the window!

Journey notes

  • The airport is directly connected to the EN125 and close to the A22 motorway. Lagos is about a one hour drive away.
  • Faro city centre is about 10–15 minutes away by car.
  • Major rental companies operate inside and outside the terminal.

Things to know

  • Tolls may apply on the A22. Hiring a toll transponder is very helpful.
  • We recommend booking full insurance and checking excess conditions carefully.

Bus

Is the cheapest option from Faro airport.

Airport → Faro city

  • Local buses: Lines 14 and 16
  • Travel time: about 15–20 minutes
  • Fare: around €2.25
  • Bus stop is outside arrivals near the taxi rank.

From Faro to Lagos

The easiest public bus is the Vamus Aerobus route 56 from Faro Airport directly to Lagos.

Direct bus (recommended)

  • Route: Vamus Aerobus 56
  • Journey time: about 1h 55m to 2h 20m
  • Price: around €17
  • Departure point: bus stop just outside arrivals
  • Arrival: Lagos bus station (central Lagos)
  • Frequency: more frequent May–October, fewer buses in winter

You can usually:

  • buy tickets at the airport machine,
  • use the Vamus app,
  • or pay the driver (cash may be required).

For current schedules:

Alternative if you miss the direct bus

  1. Take local bus 14 or 16 from the airport into Faro city centre.
  2. From Faro bus/train station:
    • take a regional train to Lagos, or
    • another long-distance bus.

Late-night arrivals

Public transport becomes limited in the evening. If your flight lands late (around 10–11pm), you may need:

  • Uber/Bolt,
  • private transfer,
  • or an overnight stay in Faro.

Train

There is no train station at the airport.

How to use the train

  1. Take bus 16 or a taxi/Uber to Faro train station
  2. Continue by regional or intercity train

Train from Faro to Lagos

From Faro station, take the regional CP train westbound to Lagos.

  • Journey time: about 1h45
  • Cost: about €7–8
  • Direct regional trains run several times daily

The train ride is scenic along the Algarve coast and is generally considered the easiest public-transport option.

Total journey

  • Approximate total time: 2.25–3 hours depending on connections
  • Typical total cost: €10–20

Important tips

  • The last train is usually around 20:50 from Faro, so late arrivals may require a bus, Uber, or private transfer instead.
  • Faro bus and train stations are very close together, so if the next train is delayed, you can also check the Vamus 57 bus to Lagos.
  • Many travelers on Reddit recommend the train for comfort and scenery.

Best train routes

  • East Algarve: Tavira, Olhão, Vila Real de Santo António
  • West Algarve: Lagos

Typical transfer

Airport → Faro station:

  • 15–25 minutes by bus (see above)
  • 10 minutes by taxi/Uber approximately

Why go on a running holiday?

May 21st 2025

Taking a holiday has numerous benefits, both for your physical health and your mental wellbeing. Here are some key points you might want to consider:

  1. Rest and Relaxation: One of the most obvious benefits of a holiday is the chance to rest and relax. Taking a break from your usual routine can help to reduce stress and improve your mood. Now, although we will be active, out running and exploring, there will also be time for resting, be it active or just lounging by the pool! We are within walking distance of some lovely Algarve beaches and a highlight of the week for some was going for a dip in the sea after our run. We have 2 different locations for our holidays this year. Our October camp is near the town of Luz and you have full use of the spa facilities here for the week. Breakfast is also included as part of the package. Our RunScape Adventures November holiday, is situated in the lovely town of Lagos. We have sole use of the apartments here and gather together every morning for breakfast and in the evenings for dinner. Both holidays have self catering facilities in the apartments so meals can be prepared if needed.
  2. New Experiences: Holidays often involve exploring new places and trying new things. These experiences can broaden your horizons, boost your confidence, and create lasting memories. There are numerous quaint towns and villages in the Algarve and we will get the opportunity to visit quite a few of them. A run that we historically do on day 1, finishes in Luz, where ice creams galore await!
  3. Meet New People: Running holidays are a great opportunity to share experiences and make new friends with similar interests. A lot of our runners keep in touch with each other when they return home after the holidays. At RunScape adventures, we get a good mix of runners traveling solo and runners travelling with their friends. we create a RunScape WhatsApp group during the week so that we can share photographs and discuss planning and logistics.
  4. Improved Productivity: Taking a break can actually make you more productive when you return to work. It can help to prevent burnout, boost your creativity, and renew your motivation. Autumn is a lovely time of year in the Algarve. Just when the days are getting considerably shorter back in the UK and the weather is turning wintry, the Algarve boasts temperatures in the low twenties, perfect for running!
  5. Health Benefits: There are also numerous health benefits associated with taking an active holiday. These include improved sleep, lower blood pressure, and a reduced risk of heart disease. A RunScape Adventures holiday will not only leave you feeling recharged, often people surprise themselves at the amount of exercise they were able to do. Let’s face it, most of us run around 3 times a week, certainly not every day, but it’s surprising what you can do when in great company and with spectacular scenery! Less than 5 months to go till our first camp of 2025…..we can’t wait!
