One of the main reasons I fell in love with this venue for running holidays, was the amount of amazing things to see in Lagos!
When I arrived in Lagos for the first time, I did the standard thing, got my runners straight on and headed out for a little explore! I do like walking as well but how I see it is that you run twice as fast as you walk, so you can go twice as far in a given time and see twice as much stuff! Always looking to be productive, this is a no-brainier for me!
Anyway, I’d seen pictures of the spectacular Algarve coastline and presumed that I would need to get in my car and drive quite a way to get to the most beautiful bits. I pictured it being a bit like Durdle Door on the south coast, where you have that one lovely rock formation in that one specific place. So…. 5 minutes into my exploration run, I encounter THE VIEW! The photo I had chosen above all others to be at the top of the home page on my website was right there in front of me! As you can imagine, the running stopped for a while as I took it all in, the beautiful beaches, stunning rock formations and incredible coastline. It was in that moment that I knew this was the place to come for the running holidays. I could happily run this route every day (we won’t though), it is just so incredibly beautiful!
Now my first trip to the Algarve was a quick one, in between my teaching days and I didn’t get the chance to watch the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean. When I go out again in a few months, this will be top of my to do list, along with swimming along the coastline in the warm waters (and actually about a hundred other things!)
You couldn’t fail to notice that there were a lot of steep steps, leading from the top cliff paths, down to the beaches below. Some people see hardship, I see hill training! If you’ve ever attempted the steps up the back of St Catherine’s Hill in Winchester, then you kinda know what you’re in for! On the training holiday, you’ll know how tired I’m feeling at this point. If I’m full of energy, I’m running this with you, giving out motivational words of encouragement. If I stand at the top with my stopwatch and my coach hat on, then you know the hills have won!
So now I had Lagos as my base location for RunScape Adventures and I now had the most amazing familiarisation run you will ever do. The running route loops back to our accommodation, a short distance away. The accommodation really is lovely, it has a 9 rating on Booking.com and we have exclusive use of it during our weeks there. I’m quite picky about where I stay, 7 or above is good and normally when it gets into the 9’s I can’t afford it! The beauty of this holiday is that it’s affordable and great value for money. Come join us in October – you won’t regret it!
