What is a running holiday?

So why would you go to the Algarve on a running holiday? The whole point of a holiday abroad is to relax…..or is it? At RunScape adventures, we think the point of a holiday is to make amazing memories, meet new friends and to come away thinking you have achieved something fantastic. The best holidays can be active holidays. Do you sometimes find that when you go on a holiday abroad and sleep in every day and do a lot of lying around that you actually come back feeling more sluggish than when you went? Now you might be thinking that running every day may be a bit much, but all training sessions are optional. Yes, we will encourage you but at the end of the day, it’s your holiday, your adventure, and if you want to opt out of any part and stay by the pool or go to the beach, then this is absolutely your call. What we generally find as the week goes on is that the camaraderie amongst runners is second to none and the sense of achievement when the challenge is shared can be immense. You’re also exploring the Algarve, one of the most beautiful places in Portugal, so there’s motivation and inspiration in the spectacular scenery everywhere you look!

So, what does the training on your Algarve running holiday involve? We will vary the sessions so they are suitable for all abilities. This may be an interval session along the many boardwalks overlooking the beautiful award-winning beaches of southern Portugal. We can vary the speed you run at, the recovery time and the distance so that everyone can achieve success. There will be group recovery runs, picture yourself running through the surf with the sea lapping at your feet! We will also have point-to-point runs, where our experienced run leaders will guide you along a set distance route. The final day will be the longest mileage, a spectacular coastal run from the most south-westerly point in Europe along the western coastline of Portugal. The views here are unbelievable, this is a real RunScape Adventure! After the sessions, you will have the opportunity to relax by the pool or visit one of the local towns. Sit outside with a coffee or ice cream and just take in the world! All transport and training is included in the fantastic price of £695, twin/double share. The weather in October/November is still fantastic in the Algarve with daytime temperatures typically reaching 22 degrees.

A running holiday is all about getting the right balance and this is where our experienced team of RunScape run leaders can help you. One of the most common questions asked is ‘will I be fast enough?’ We always cater for all abilities and with a fantastic ratio of 1:6 coaches per runner, we have the staffing to be able to deliver this. Our team is also very adaptable with their planning. Every evening we will meet and reflect on how the day went and look at the schedule for the day ahead. Happy runners make happy coaches, we like a challenge too!
